Boulevard 251 is a secure and tranquil community in central Iquitos but without the noise. It offers a choice of 17 stylish and individually designed self catering apartments and studios to rent for long or short stay visitors to Iquitos – the gateway to the Amazon rainforest.
The English owner, a keen conservationalist, retained the garden area where guests can relax and maybe catch a glimpse of the wildlife who have made their home here. These include owls and other tropical bird species, Iguanas and parrots are also occasional visitors when our fruit trees are in season.
From our spacious “Panteleon” Lounge you will be able to meet and exchange your travel adventures with fellow travellers. From their balcony or terrace, our residents and guests can enjoy our wonderful river views, spectacular sunrises and, in the solstice, even more spectacular moonrises.
The property is steeped in history (see below).
On our doorstep there is a wide selection of bars, cafes and retaurants, the nearest (80 metres) is Dawn on the Amazon with an extensive menu which includes various vegetarian and special dietry options.
The garden lodge, now converted into apartments, was acquired during the Rubber boom of 1880 –1914 by an Englishman for a mere £190.
In 1945 after World War II it became a sanctuary for a Nazi war criminal.
In 1975 the extensive balcony was used to film the brothel scenes from the award winning film “Panteleon y Los Visitadores” from the comedic novel based on true facts, by Mario Vargas Llosa, the distinguished author and politician who, in 1971, was narrowly defeated in his bid to become Peru’s president.
In 2010 Senor Llosa received the Nobel Prize for literature.
The present owner Jimmy converted the lodge into apartments in 2005 and in 2016 built a new luxury apartment block on the river bank, retaining the garden and its wildlife.
Boulevard 251 is the only hotel in Iquitos to offer tranquility away from the city’s noisy traffic with front line views of the mightyAmazon flood plane.
